BJP readies for family meet

BANGALORE: Ward-level BJP workers have been asked by the party’s top leaders to turn up in full strength on September 13 at the National College grounds, where BJP national leaders L K Advani, Rajnath Singh and others will address the public.

The BJP, which plans to launch its campaign for the coming Lok Sabha polls, wants to make the three-day national executive committee meeting here a grand success.

As part of this strategy, the party’s national general secretary Ananth Kumar and state BJP president D V Sadananda Gowda have held several rounds of meeting with various local units in Bangalore.

“All are in an upbeat mood and the executive meeting will be a success,” BJP state spokesperson S Prakash said.

The BJP has divided Bangalore into 27 assembly-level and 100 ward-level committees.

This will be the fourth time that the party’s national executive meeting is being held in Bangalore, but the first time since it came to power in the south. Three meetings were held here in 1986, 1992 and 1999.

Around 240 delegates including seven BJP chief ministers are expected to attend. Often held once in three months, the national executive meeting now came at a time when general elections are close.

The party will pass resolutions condemning serial bomb blasts in Bangalore and Gujarat; it will condemn the Jammu and Kashmir government for withdrawing land given to the Amarnath Shrine Board; it will protest against inflation, terrorism and issues related with foreign policy. One of the main focus will be to highlight the failed policies of the Centre.
